To impress your guests with your food, you need to come up with creative recipes that inspire new memories and conversation. If you want to host a social event, come up with foods that can be shared or carried around the room. Finger foods and tapas are perfect for large dinner parties because guests tend to rotate from one space to another to try different dishes. You can also create a tasting menu with unusual recipes that will get your guests excited about trying new cuisines and food combinations.

A few months ago I realized that just about every time I go to lunch I am thinking, “I could make this at home for so much cheaper.” Not just cheaper, but a healthier version. So I did some research, made a grocery list one weekend, got what I needed, and prepared my home lunch options for the week. Now I eat in the comfort of my home daily. Here are a few of my favorites: Continue reading

This is a pretty old school recipe that you might have seen on any of those satellitetv.net cooking channels – Food, HGTV, that kind of thing. The difference here, however, is that it’s not going to take you an entire hour-long television program to find what you need. In fact, it will probably only take you about 20 or 30 minutes tops.
Let’s start with the ingredients. You will need:
- 1 potato (obviously)
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (olive oil will work too)
- 1 plastic bag
- 1 large dinner plate
- cooking spray
Now that we have all that, here’s what you do:
1. Cut that potato paper thin. Literally, paper thin. Make sure your knife is sharp enough. You can peel if you want, but you really shouldn’t have to if the slices are thin enough.
2. Next, you’ll want to put the vegetable oil and the potato slices into the plastic bag. Give it a good shake to make sure every slice is coated in the oil.
3. Put a thin layer of cooking spray on the dinner plate and arrange the potato slices on it. One layer. Don’t stack or overlap.
4. Cook in the microwave for about 5 minutes. If they are not browned, they won’t be crispy.
5. When they are ready, remove the plate from the microwave and season. Then let cool.
When dinner starts in the house, there are jobs that everyone can do. The mother is usually the one who is preparing the meal and cooking. Small children should not touch the stove, but they can help pour ingredients into a bowl or stir them together. Both parents can cook on the stove or place items in the oven. If there is only one parent at home, then this job would be their responsibility. Teenagers can help with putting pots and pans on the stove, but unless they have used the stove before, Continue reading
You can spend a lot of money on a cabinet full of spices. However, if your family doesn’t like the flavors or you do not know how to combine them, they will sit on the shelf collecting dust.
Start with the basics, and add to your supply as you venture into new taste avenues. Salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and cinnamon are staples every cook should have.
Basil is a mild Italian herb that goes well with all meats, as well as pasta, soups, sauces and vegetables. Is this new Continue reading
Homemade cookies are by far better than cookies made from a mix. With homemade cookies, you get that fresh from the oven softness and flavor. It’s a great way to make your kitchen smell great too. Cookies from the mix are ok as far as a quick fix, but cookies from the mix only come in so many flavors. Homemade cookies such as soft tea cakes just can’t be beat by any mix.
When using cookies from the mix, you have to be sure that you mix according to the directions on the Continue reading
